Meeting Format and Rotation Schedule
Overview
All Addictions Big Book Step Study meetings have a standard format for an hour and a half weekly meeting that is based on the original “Hyannis” Big Book Step Study group format of Alcoholics Anonymous. The only difference is that All Addictions BBSS meetings reference more than alcohol as an addictive substance and include addictive behaviors.
The format allows the group to read and comment on the sections of the Big Book that specifically reference the instructions for working the 12 Steps using a 15-week rotation schedule. The sections of the Big Book (excluding “Bill’s Story”) begin on page xxiii (“The Doctor’s Opinion”) and end on page 103 (“Working with Others”). Once the rotation is completed, the group starts over again.
Commonly, the chairperson invites a speaker who has completed ‘the process’ of working the Steps as they are outlined in the Big Book with a Big Book Step Study Sponsor to share on the Step being studied that week. After the speaker has shared, other attendees that have completed the process are then invited to share their experience on that Step.
The 15-week rotation schedule identifies the date and Step being covered and commonly is updated by the secretary of the group after each rotation.
You can download a copy of the format and the rotation schedule to use from this webpage. Don’t have anyone who has completed the process and still want to start a meeting? We suggest using the format, rotation schedule and playing the speaker recordings. Contact other 12 Step BBSS groups and invite speakers to come to your meeting.
